Maltby Street: the larder’s weekend

Ep. 7 · Thirty stalls in the Ropewalk arches

FitTrip Editor · 2026.07.16

Maltby Street Market runs in the Ropewalk, a lane between railway arches: Saturdays 10am–5pm and Sundays 11am–4pm, with seasonal Friday evenings in July–September. Its thirty-odd artisan food and drink stalls pack a narrow lane — smaller than Borough Market, it competes on density and quality, and doubles as the supply point of the Beer Mile (Ep. 6).

Worn out by the Borough Market crowds? No need to cross the river. The answer is Maltby Street Market, held each weekend in the narrow lane between railway arches known as the Ropewalk.

Thirty stalls

The market runs Saturdays 10am–5pm and Sundays 11am–4pm Fact, with seasonal Friday evenings added in July–September Fact. The stalls number around thirty Fact — no match for Borough Market in scale, but it competes on the density of artisan food packed into a narrow lane, and on how often the maker is the seller Estimate.

The larder’s weekend edition

Saturday brings the fullest line-up; Sunday runs quieter Fact. The arch line connects straight to the Beer Mile (Ep. 6), making this the exact supply point for a brewery pilgrimage. The leather and biscuit factories left — but watch the Ropewalk on a weekend and you will see the “London’s Larder” name has not retired.
